Feeling aches in my knee-cap, what can I do to get rid of it?!


Question: Feeling aches in my knee-cap, what can I do to get rid of it.?
Yesterday I started feeling an aching sensation in my knee-cap. I'm not sure weather it's due to the changing of wheather or if I moved it the wrong way.? It feels bruised but there's no bruises on it but that's what it feels like. Will it go away soon.? I tried to bike but it starting aching so I had to stop.Health Question & Answer

R.I.C.E. Rest. Ice. Compress. Elevate.

Sometimes, it hurts so much, that you're sure it is broken, but most of the time it is just a sprain. It is a standard prescription by ER MDs when patients come in with soft tissues injuries that cause pain, swelling, without any fractures.

Resting your knee and not doing any activities for at least few days will give the tissues a chance to heal. You are probably re-injuring it as you ride your bike while your knee is hurting.

Placing an icepack on it for about 15 minutes every hour on the hour will dramatically reduce the swelling.

Compressing the affected area with an Ace wrap will decrease the pain, and compress the tissues to prevent further swelling.

Elevating the affected area will prevent pooling and thus reducing swelling to your knee.

And, lastly. Take Motrin/Advil/ibuprofen (all the same thing). I take 400 to 600 mg myself when my knee starts bothering me. It works for me. It takes the pain down considerably, if not eliminate it. It also has an anti-inflammatory (anti-swelling) effect.
