Severe Pain Please Help?!

Question: Severe Pain Please Help.?
Ok, I have had a series of health issues since August and my regular doctors doesn't know what is wrong. I have had to many things going on so im not going to mention them all. I am going to see two specialist at the end of this month, but not so sure I can wait that long until then. In August, I got this knot under my arm (axillary area/armpit.) I told my doctor and she said it was probably a swollen lymphnode. So I was like ok, and after a week or so it went away, you could still feel it but it was really little and you couldn't see it. It has now came back about 2 weeks ago, and I went back to the dr last week because of some mysterious rashes and I showed him and he said he isn't sure and we will just wait and see what the specialist says. Well now this knot has gotten about 3x bigger. It is about the size of a quarter, maybe a little bigger and hurts REALLY BAD! It is also all red and stuff and today I had an anual check up with my OB/GYN and I mentioned it to her and she said that it was a cyst under the sking and was definatly infected and need to be drained by a surgeon, so she referred me to one but the app. isn't until October 17th. This knot is huge and im in so much pain, I can't hardly move my arm, I can't hold my arm against me, and you can't touch it or anywhere around it. I have tried holding a hot rag on it like my OB/GYN said to so it will get a head on it but now it is hurting even worse and I can't sleep because of it, and it is hard for me to wear a bra. Sorry if you found this kind of gross but im dying in pain and I was wanting thoughts on what I can do to relieve it. I thought about going to the ER a couple of times because it is like getting bigger and worse everyday and nobody else will do anything! I can't wait that long to get to a doctor, by then I definatly won't be able to bear this pain! PLEASE HELP ME! Health Question & Answer

If the pain is unbearable, then definitely get to an ER NOW!!! If it is infected, they should have put you on an antibiotic to clear the infection. If you can't get to an ER asap, you may want to soak in a hot tub to ease the pain..but go ASAP..you'll feel better once it's gone. Health Question & Answer

Wow! That sounds painful. Do you think a dermatologist could help.? You might be able to get an appointment with one sooner.Health Question & Answer

Call the Dr. you have an appt. with, tell the receptionist that you are inexcruciating pain, & ask them to call you as soon as there is a cancelation. Ask, also, if your prior Dr. should have put you on an antibiotic, & ask what you can do for the pain until you can get treatment.

Be definate & assertive about how you are feeling.

I apologize if this is a stupid response and you have already done all this. (I am just another person with issues I am trying to fix.) I would treat it as if it is a badly clogged duct and do all the remedies for that. Soak it in the hot bath or put hot compresses on it or stand in the shower with the hot water on it while you are massaging it. Let baby eat in football hold so his nose is pointing towards the area. Be sure you spend the day diligently caring for it-staying home and resting, heating it, massaging it, and feeding every 2-3 hours and maybe it will go down.

A Lactation Consultant I saw was telling me that a woman was complaining about a painful lump that she ended up getting a biopsy on that turned out to be a clogged duct. How scary to worry that it is something more serious when it may be just part of the BFing that you can fix. I am guessing you already talked to Lactation Consultants.

Good luck.Health Question & Answer

If you are in that much pain please do not wait, go to the ER. They will be able to determine if there is something that needs to be done now!

also I would recommend a little different approach then the previous poster. Many doctors offices will make exceptions for "emergency patients" defined as one who is in a great deal of pain, even new patients. You might get a little better results speaking to the specialist's PA or nurse. Explain your situation like you did here and they should try and make room for you. If not call around to someone else can see you sooner.
