Did I bruise my tailbone?!

Question: Did I bruise my tailbone.?
Hey, I was watching a movie and sitting in an awkward position. My tailbone hurt a little bit after. However, now, three days later, it hurts to sit at work (like right now) or anywhere that isn't my bed pretty much.

It feels like a protrusion near the top of my buttocks, but I haven't asked anyone to look at it since I just started college and am not really comfortable with anyone that much yet, although, I'll probably ask my roommate to describe it to me.

Do you guys think I have it bruised or fractured.? Is that even possible from awkward sitting.? I haven't biked since the movie.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It's hard to say. Did it only hurt after that one time watching the movie.? Has the pain continually gotten worse over the past few days, and has the protrusion gotten bigger.?
Have you tried ice, and if so, did that give you any relief.?
Does the pain feel like it's "deep"....like a deep aching inside, or does it feel closer to the surface.?
I think normally an injury to the tailbone is the result of a hard fall instead of just sitting in the wrong position. Have you taken a fall that could account for it.?
I'm wondering if it might be a pilonidal cyst developing. You get those near your tailbone, and they can be very painful. If it gets large and inflamed and doesn't go away, try some hot compresses and see if it will drain. If not, you'll probably have to have it lanced at the doctor's.
I had one when I was about 15 and it was so large, painful and infected I had a fever. It's not pleasant! I had surgery done to keep it from forming again.
Have somebody take a look at it.
Good luck!Health Question & Answer
