Percocet making me itch?!

Question: Percocet making me itch.?
I just had surgery on Wednesday and since then I've been a little itchy... on my arms, upper chest and legs. There is no redness or spots or hives or anything. Could it be a reaction the percocet I am taking, or a delayed allergy from the anesthesia, or maybe I'm itching because I've been laying around so much and on top of that, haven't been able to take a shower since before surgery! Anyone have any ideas.?Health Question & Answer

Using opiates causes a histamine release in your body which causes itching. This is very normal, in fact many people enjoy the scratching...you may feel weird touch-like sensations too and find yourself touching your arms, face etc. especially during sleeping

Itching is a very normal side effect of opiate use. As long as you aren't scratching yourself untiul you bleed or it becomes VERY bothersome don't sweat it.Health Question & Answer

It is not a reaction from the anesthesia. How soon after you took the Percocet, did you begin itching.? If it was within 30 minutes, you very well could be having a reaction to it. If it wasnt, then its probably from laying around.Health Question & Answer

I believe that Percocet has a type of Codine in it. You are allergic. It might not cause you any real hardship. I know that many people are allergic..All of those make me itch..but they are the only thing that really helps with real pain.
