Crepitus could mean there is a direct rubbing of bones already. It is painless because the pads between the bones have not yet completely deteriorated. It will in time, because of advancing age and wear and tear. This is called arthritis.

It could be almost out of socket, but not there yet. hold that behind your head with your elbow bent, grab your elbow with your other hand, and jerk it over. It should slide in. My shoulder does it sometimes, but after I did that it does it less.Health Question & Answer
