Answers:
HI there....the 'RH(D) is not a blood type, per se. It only relates to one little aspect of your blood type. Are you thinking of having kids, by any chance.? It usually becomes an issue in situations related to pregnancy.

Your blood exhibits proteins on its surface, called 'antigens'. Generally, there are two classifications of blood types - those that look at the 'ABO' antigens, and those that look at the Rh antigens.

Your blood test, if it only says 'Rh (D)', only relates to the Rh antigens. It doesn't tell you much about who can or cannot give you blood, or receive your blood - only that you can't give to people who are RhD negative. For real advice on blood transfusion, you need to know your ABO status:

If your status is O neg, you can only receive O negative blood (the 'negative' part refers to the Rhesus factor). However, you can give your blood to anybody - that's why it's so highly valued.

If your blood is AB positive, you're lucky - you can receive blood from anybody, but only give to AB pos.

AB neg can give to AB pos or AB neg.

A pos can give to A pos or AB pos.

A neg can give to A pos, AB pos, and AB neg and A neg.

B pos can give to B pos or AB pos

B neg can give to B neg, AB neg, AB pos and B pos.

O pos can give to A pos, B pos, AB posHealth Question & Answer
