Your opinion on post-op nasal splints and sinus surgery?!

Question: Your opinion on post-op nasal splints and sinus surgery.?
I have to have surgery next week on my sinuses (the "balloon" procedure) and removal of sinus polyps. I also have to have septoplasty and turbinate removal. I am really really afraid, but I have been at the sickest point of my life in the past two weeks and am pretty much as miserable as I could get, so I'm excited to be able to breathe again.

I am most concerned about the post-op nasal splints. I just basically want to know your opinion/experience with using them. I'm afraid because I've only heard bad things, and wanted some good news.

While you're at it, share with me all you know about healing, and levels of discomfort while recuperating, or if you have any other knowledge of these procedures, let me know.

I really don't know about these splints, and I wish I could help you more.

I just wanted to share with you, though, that I was seeing a sinus surgeon who had already operated on my sinuses once, but my problems returned and became severe. A doctor that I was seeing sent me to a different ENT specialist, who also treats allergies (my other ENT doctor did not). I found out that I was highly allergic to many things, including me dog. I have never had any itching or nasal congestion when around my dog and mostly just get one infection after the next. I was shocked that I had allergies--even to several foods including grapefruit and eggs.

I started a regimen of nasal saline washes, allergy shots, nasal antihistimine, and nasal steroid and my problems have markedly improved.

You may have already tried these things, and your case is probably a lot different from mine, but I just thought you should be aware that if one doctor doesn't work for you, another might take a different approach that may be able to help you more.

I hope you feel better soon. I understand how sick you can get with sinus problems--it interferes with all aspects of how you feel about your life when it is affecting you. I wish I could have answered your question better, though.Health Question & Answer

I didnt have the nasal splints but i had the same surgery done...septplatsy and removal of turbinate. It was painful for a week and you cant breathe thru your nose or taste or smell anything for like a few weeks. Make sure you take painkillers and avoid touching your nose as much as possible and take it easy! All the best! =)Health Question & Answer
