Question: How do I help my college athlete daughter who tore her acl a couple of months ago. .?
She is a freshmen and is required to live on campus. It gets hard for her when the team travels and she is left alone in the dorms. She has 6 months to go before she can play sports again. She is starting to get depressed. What can I say or do to help her at this time.?Health Question & Answer

Boy do I know how that is. I had what is called a complete hyper extension. Think of a person laying flat on the ground and the leg is bent the wrong way so far that the sole of the foot is pointing to the sky.

I had to have extensive surgery to repair the damage. I spent alot of time on the internet. I got into gaming too. I found a pc game that would play on my laptop and played that. I did a lot of reading. If she has free time, you might think about getting her an account with pogo.com.
It is an online game site with some fun games that are also social in that there is some light chat. It will also feed her need to be competitive as there are team based games to play. This is prolly a good choice if she doesn't have a gaming rig to use. It's fairly cheap. I think it's like 20.00 for a year.

also, get her a backpack for her laptop if she has one. It also comes in handy for carrying things even short distances on crutches. Trust me on this one. I used a small daypack to carry my clothes to the shower from my room. also get her some warm socks. Her operative foot is going to be cold from reduced circulation caused by the brace.
