Question on Pectus Excavatum!!!!?!

Question: Question on Pectus Excavatum!!!!.?
I suffer from pectus excavatum. I have it pretty badly in my opinion. I'm in good physical condition but cannot run a mile in less than 14minutes. My heart beats faster than anyone I know. I want to have corrective surgery more than anything else in my life, and I hate to get all dramatic here but I simply cannot go on without having corrective surgery :(. I am 19 years old, will be 20 on december 15. I want to have the Nuss procedure...I think it's called (the one where they leave a bar in your chest for roughly 2 years). I lost my health insurance once I graduated from highschool, but (according to my parents) will get back on it once I start college on January 12th, 2009. I was wondering if I could get an honest answer on the chance I have of being eligible for this surgery. As I said, I want it more than anything. And will do whatever to correct it. Thanks for reading all that!

If you could please leave your email or AOL name or something so I could have a way of talking to you about this. :)Health Question & Answer

You may remember me from your previous questions. I didn't have health insurance for my second operation (removing the bars), but I did have health insurance for the initial surgery. I think that the surgery actually costs a lot less than most people, including myself, would think. I do not know what the cost of the first surgery was, but I know that the second one (removing the bars) was less than $2000. My point being, If the surgery is this affordable, your health insurance probably won't have a problem with covering it. Hope this helps.

You know what is interesting.? Believe it or not, I am currently 19 years old and I turn 20 on December 14th! :-) My college currently allows me to have health insurance, and it covers just about everything. I am going to try e-mailing you my e-mail address instead of leaving it on Yahoo Answers. (to avoid spam) :-)

tough situation...I expect most insurances would consider that a preexisting situation and refuse to pay for it. Wonder why mom and dad didnt do anything about it years ago.?Health Question & Answer
