Cat poop in sand box can it still be used?!
Question: Cat poop in sand box can it still be used.?
I was on vacation for a week and when i returned i noticed i had left the cover off the sand box and there were several buried piles of cat poop.I dug out the poop
but i still noticed a smell.My question is this if close up
the sand box till next spring will it be safe for kids to play
in or must i get rid of the sand.(the sand box is 5'x6' and 9" deep a lot of sand)

Absolutely not!!! Get rid of it!!! Cat poop has so many germs in it as well as worms your cat may have (yes, cats have worms also) Sand does not cost so much that you should put your child in danger of getting sick. Cat scratch fever is one that comes to mind. People and kids can get it when a cat scratches them (my Mom got it once) that is because cats bury their poop which is full of paracites and they get those paracites on their claws and when they scratch someone the person can get infections from the cat poop and need antibiotics (my Mom had to have antibiotics to get rid of the infection) so dump the sand and buy fresh next year, don't take the chance of making your child sick all for the price of a bag or 2 of sand. We bought fresh sand every year for our kids and grandkids sandboxes.Health Question & Answer
