Why is it Doctors don't wear?!

Question: Why is it Doctors don't wear.?
white coats in the hospital. I had to go to A & E yesterday, I could not tell who was who, confusing ! I also noted that even though the doctor who was treating me washed her hands then wiped her hands down her clothes ! Surely that is not hygenic. What do you thinkHealth Question & Answer

Doctors are like that. They think they can get away with whatever they want. The sad part is they do!!! If a medic ever did that, there would be hell to payHealth Question & Answer

Doctors no longer where white coats as they have long sleeves and that makes handwashing difficult. The policy in most hospitals is for doctors to wear short sleves to allow access up to the elbows. Ties are NOT part of the doctors uniform and shouldnt be worn. In many hospitals they are encouraged to wear polo shirts for hygine reasons. While undertaking close examination of patients and for procedures they should wear plastic disposable aprons and gloves to cut down the risk of cross infection. The computor keyboards are cleaned at least once daily. The policy is clear that either handwashing or alcohol gel is to be used before and after EACH patient contact.(Wiping of hands down clothing is never acceptable) Every member of hospital staff have to have a hand washing assessment every year. If they dont score 100% they need close monitoring ,education and reassessment. If you visit a hospital and the Doctors or Nurses dont do this contact the infection control departmaent of that hospital and inform them.Health Question & Answer

Only doctors tend to not wear uniform and receptionists...nurses and everyone else tend to wear different uniform i think they should have uniform for dcotors...the whole point of uniform is for infection control so why do they think that doctors are immune to that but its that whole hierarchy thing where doctors are on top and they dont need to wear uniform.... i see that doctors seem to think they are immune to hand wahing procedures...as a student nurse we get loads of lessons on hygeine i think they need to introduce that to doctors during medical school so theyre aware too...it sound simple washing hands but youll be supprised how many people get it wrong.Health Question & Answer

They don't wear white coats as they are supposed to have their arms bare below the elbow because of the risk of contamination with superbugs when they are in contact with patients, wearing of ties ,watches and jewellery is also advised against.

Proper hand washing is imperative! The doctor should know better!Health Question & Answer

I hope you mentioned this to the doctor. Because junior doctors need telling. Seriously, hygiene seems to be so bad that doctors pens, ties (if they wear one), computer keyboards and hands all seemed to be undoing the good the lady who cleans has done. Shame on them.Health Question & Answer

this is a strange behavior from doctor , its not for all doctors , it may be single case , but you must go to her manager in the hospital , tell hem/her what happened with you, Ithink he will refuse this behavior. medicine is good , we must trust in them .Health Question & Answer

It wasnt. Most of the hospitals I went to its still the norm, white coats, name tages, and hospital badges. Don't know what kind of place you visited. Low budget, get what your lucky to service.?Health Question & Answer

I would have asked the doctor to re-wash her hands before touching me! And doctors here just wear scrubs usually. I don't know why, and yes, it is confusing.Health Question & Answer

I think you shouldve told this Doctor to use some sanitary conditions or not touch you... I think I would be finding a different place to go for health care!Health Question & Answer
