Surgery for herniated disc?!

Question: Surgery for herniated disc.?
Hi there, I'm a 26 year old mother of a 10month old baby + have a herniated disc in my back. I've been troubled with back pain since falling down stairs while I was 15 but have never had surgery just lots of physio + steroid injections.
My dr is now wanting me to have surgery for a herniated disc which has been extremely painful for the last 8months.
I'm completely torn in 2 about whether or not to have the surgery. In the one hand I want to live a normal life and enjoy time with my husband + beautiful daughter- running + playing with her, and also hopefully have another child. But on the other hand I'm completely terrified and am afraid of something going wrong + me ending up in a worse position.
What I'm asking is have any of you been through this surgery.? What's the recovery like.?
And do you regret it.?

Many thanks in advance xoHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
i've never had surgery for a herniated disc but i have 3 in my lumbar
(i'm 18), but from what i read surgery will not always work, but i've never heard of it getting worse, it also depends on the type of surgery.
have you tried traction.?Health Question & Answer
