I had to get an alternative "energy" work done for a paper, so I chose acupuncture. I was a non-believer, but I had shin splints at the time. I did my own experimentation with the control group on my right side and told her only about the left sided pain. The left sided pain was blocked and the right side continued to be painful.

I later learned that other than energy meridians, there is an actual analgesic affect, although I believe it's only a local thing. It would probably depend on how deep and intense your pain was. My leg pain went from a 4 to numb for a few hours, with full relief for 3 days afterward.

Side effects and risks are the same as with any type of minor puncture type of injury. Sanitation is imperative, especially with compromised immunity. Other risks are minor...the practitioner may strike a nerve or blood vessel, hematoma.

I'd definitely give it a shot.Health Question & Answer

It does work. I had a car accident, damaged all the muscles in my neck and back. No kind of therapy was working, we tried acupuncture and it worked.

Acupuncture works as long as the person doing is knowledgeable. also the traditional kind is better than the newer modern kind of acupuncture. You should try it, but make sure you go to the best person. They maybe a bit expensive but at least u'll get the best treatment and would be able to healHealth Question & Answer
