Answers:
they say you aren't supposed to go to sleep b/c you may go into a coma and never wake up but recent studies show otherwise...i even learned something from this, b/c i thought the same thing...

This information was found from this site:

(i also found the same information on other sites but this is the one i quoted...)

"You do not need to keep awake a person with a recent concussion. This was recommended for years to observe a person for any changes after a concussion. People worried that the person may go into a coma and never wake up. This is no longer believed to be true. You can allow someone to sleep after a concussion. This should cut down on sleep deprivation for all involved."
Health Question & Answer

Resting is the best way to recover. However when the person first experiences the trauma to the brain dizziness and/or sleepiness can be symptoms of a concussion. If the person is oriented as to the time (what day is it), place (where they are), and things like their name, who the President is, what your name is, these questions are to ensure they have not sustained brain damage. Basically you want to keep them awake long enough to ensure they have not sustained serious brain trauma. Once you have determined that they are basically not experiencing cognitive difficulties then you want to give them some Advil, Tylenol, or another OTC pain reliever to ease the headache pain they will experience. Then yes sleep is a good thing. Then monitor them for a few hours to ensure they are alright. Health Question & Answer

No & yes.
No you do not have to keep a person awake. It is an old wives tale about going to sleep and never waking up.

My daughter was in a bad car accident. She had severe fractures to her skull, along with a broken neck & several other life threatning injuries. She had a moderate brain injury. When she was admitted to the trauma unit. She was woken every half hour, and asked simple questions. After about 6-8 hours they started waking her every hour. After 24 hours they let her go every 4 hours. After 48 hours she was out of danger.
