Question: I have a cold & now have loads of cold sores.?
Is there anything i can do to get rid of the cold sores, they are all over my top lip, they are very sore & i can't even kiss my children!!!!Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus which invades the cells of the epidermis, causing fluid-filled blisters to appear. There are creams you can buy over the counter, just ask your pharmacist. There are also antiviral creams which can be obtained on prescription or again over the counter I believe; this won't actually kill the virus, it may however stop it from multiplying. Acyclovir ( Zovirax) is worth trying.

The virus basically lays dormant in your body, and pops up (have a 'break out') from again from time to time, often when your ill (have a cold) or stressed, sunshine can also trigger it.Health Question & Answer

The usual management is Zovirax ointment applied locally 5 times a day. It only works if you start treatment early though. You don't need to see a doctor as it is available OTC from the pharmacy.
