7 year old always has blood in stool...?!
Question: 7 year old always has blood in stool....?
My daughter is 7 years old and almost on a daily basis has bright red blood through out her stool. I have taken her to her pediatrician (who calls it non-painful rectal bleeding). The pediatrician in turn referred us to a gastrointestinal specialist and we had urine, stool, and blood testing done and apparently everything is "normal". Although my daughter does not feel pain when she uses the bathroom she does complain about stomach discomfort more often then I would like and there is still blood daily. The specialist mentioned that she might have polyps and she may need them to be removed surgically in order to stop bleeding. My question is: does anyone know why else my daughter has blood in her stool so often and can it be something that is overlooked by doctors.? I dont know what else to do. I know IT IS NOT NORMAL and its sad to hear your 7 year old little girl say everyday "Mommy I have blood again".
What can and should I do next.?

Sounds like your daughter needs a colonoscopy. And a new doctor! The GI specialist may be right about the polyps, but I would definitely insist on the colonoscopy before any other "major" procedures are considered. No, blood in stools is NOT normal, as you already know. I would possibly stick it out with the specialist if they recommend the "scope", but if not, head for the doors! That's the ONLY way you're going to find out exactly where the blood is coming from! Good luck!Health Question & Answer
By specialist do you mean a colorectal specialist.? This is who you should take your daughter to see. I might be finding another pediatriciant too! I encourage you to seek out a colorectal surgeon and no one else. Aside from that, if there a Children's Hospital near you.? (e.g., Houston, Florida, St. Louis, etc) This is not "normal" I presume the stool testing was a colorectal kit you took home and placed 3 separate stools onto a paper.? Please don't let this go. May need a colonoscopyHealth Question & Answer
She may be very constipated, this may be the reason. Or sth may be wrong with the intestines.
Is the gastrointestinal specialist a child specialist at the same time.?
I would find a pediatrician who is gastrointestinolog at the same time and be checked. She will probably need to have a colonoscopy.
I hope she gets well soon.
Good luck.
Just look for the right doctor and it will be allright.Health Question & Answer
