How can I ease the withdrawals I will get from detoxing from hydrocodone pain med?!

Question: How can I ease the withdrawals I will get from detoxing from hydrocodone pain med.?
I have been taking pain medication (hydrocodone) every day for the past six months. I am ashamed but will admit I even have began abusing the dosage and taking far greater than I should. I wish to stop. I fear the withdrawal stage and am concerned the effect will be so bad that I won't feel like going to work. I can't afford to lose my job. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me keep moving on and get through this as quick and painless as possible.?Health Question & Answer

The most painless way is to wean yourself off the drugs. Decrease the dose by quater to half every 4 or 5 days. Until you're off. Going cold turkey after 6 months of increasing doses if going to be difficult not matter how you do it. If you stop completely, all at once, I pretty much guarantee you WON"T be up to working. Coming off opiates is like the worst flu you've ever had multplied by 100.

Even weaning can be difficult. Expect lots of yawning and goosebumps to start, followed by chills, cold sweats, stomach cramps, diarrhea. A heating pad will be your best friend for a few days. Drink lots and keep yourself well-hydrated and don't stray too far from the rest room.

If you can, I'd strongly recommend going to a doctor, being honest, and asking for his help coming off the drugs. There's things they can do for you as an inpatient that you won't have doing it by yourself. Such as giving you meds for help with the nausea and stomach issues.

Good luck. I broke both ankles a few years back and coming off the painkillers wasn't pleasant.Health Question & Answer

The quickest and painless method is to admit yourself in a hospital for three days and have this procedure. It works.
Some rapid detox centers simply offer replacement-opiate treatment with Methadone or Suboxone (Subutex). These drugs also contain opiates that could eventually require second detoxification. These substitutes cause the patient to go through the same withdrawals that they wanted to eliminate in first place.

The Waismann Method of Rapid Detox offers safe, unique and completely opiate-free treatment in the most humane method. Patients leave the hospital opiate-free in a few days. Within a decade, thousands of patients from all over the world have detoxified. Health Question & Answer
