Are bananas the only food that prevent cramps?!

Question: Are bananas the only food that prevent cramps.?
I've been eating bananas about an hour before running, and it definitely helps with cramps. But if I run out of bananas, what else can I eat to prevent cramps while running for several miles.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I make up a drink of "Endura" - it's a powder that you mix with water and it has potassium, magnesium and some other elements in it to replace your electrolytes and prevent cramping.

Not as natural as eating fruit, but it does the job for me. It's made by the same people that make Metagenics, based in Qld.

If you want to stick with eating something, rather than chemical concoctions, then anything rich in potassium and magnesium will help. Almonds are a classic, as are dried apricots, and any decent yoghurt (check the ingredients that it isn't all gelatin and "padding" ingredients).

I used to eat some live yoghurt before running and almonds when I finished.

Orange juice has high potassium too. I have also been told that cramps can be caused by not enough calcium, so milk. If you're in the middle of a cramp, take a spoonful of yellow mustard. Sounds crazy, but it works. You could take some of the little packets you get in fast food places on your run in case you get a cramp while running, just squirt the packet in your mouth.Health Question & Answer

Actually no. They just make your digestive system somewhat COME OUT if you get what i mean ;]

Try gingerale/sprite

NOT COKE OR ANYTHING ELSE. :)

good luck =DHealth Question & Answer

Orange juice also. Bananas and oj are high in potassium. When we get muscle cramps it's because we lack potassium.Health Question & Answer
