If you go to the hospital to get stitches for a cut finger, would they give you morphine?!

Question: If you go to the hospital to get stitches for a cut finger, would they give you morphine.?
I have a friend that I think is lying to me. They said they cut their finger and the hospital staff gave them 8mg of morphine before giving the stitches. Do they really give you that for stitches.? I thought they numbed the area with something before giving stitches.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
No Morphine for stitches in finger. You would get a local anesthetic via a small injection just above the wound (probably lidocaine).Health Question & Answer

Afraid not just Novocaine for stitches. Health Question & Answer

No,they probably thought that was what it was.Health Question & Answer
