~ Hi ~ I'm sorry you're in so much pain. =( It's great that you taught yourself backbends! However, I would say you definitely need to stop the backbends until you get control of the pain. also, if the pain continues, you may want to have a Doctor evaluate what's going on.

You could have herniated a disc or be experiencing compression that is causing nerve related issues. Pain is your body's way of letting you know something is wrong. So, please try and take heed to pain. Of course there's different levels of pain - some pain just lets us know we worked our muscles good and just requires stretching before the next work out. But, the pain in your lumbar spine, sounds like more than just from a work-out.

As far as relief I would try alternating ice and heat. The ice will help to reduce the inflammation and the heat will help to relax the muscles and prevent muscle spasms. also, liquid Ibuprofen works great (the liquid gels works much better than the capsules and get to the pain faster). If you can take Ibuprofen - I highly recommend having someone get you some. also, they are available in generic so reasonable cost wise.

Just be sure to take it easy and avoid the backbends until you start noticing relief from the pain. If you notice other symptoms develop - pain in the legs or shooting leg pain. You should really see about going to the Doctor.

I hope you get relief soon. =)Health Question & Answer

Stop. You could be compressing your disks. BUild up your abdominal strength for a while, and then see how you feel after a month or two.Health Question & Answer
