A hobby is a good place to start. If, you can keep your mind occupied and get deeply involved in a project that you are interested in, it will take your mind off the pain. Keeping your hands occupied and your mind stimulated will distracts the pain. Even taking a walk, if possible, will get you out of the surroundings you associate with the pain you are feeling.

Having a pet is another good way to keep you uplifted. They love unconditionally and will keep you company whether you have pain or not. They are also incapable of judgment, also.

My husband found he could no longer forge knife blades himself, so he now buys the knife blanks and finishes the knives from there. They are just as beautiful as the ones he used to forge himself and he still finds satisfaction in the finished product. Health Question & Answer

This is a trick I learned doing wall sits, which are pretty painful. I think it can also be modified to take your mind off of chronic pain as well.

On the wall opposite of where I was there was a set of rules numbered 1 through 15. I started at one and counted down the set of numbers slowly, one through 15, one per second. I put all of my focus towards "ticking" from one to the next, almost like a clock. Then I went back up towards 1 until I was done with my exercise.

I think it was a kind of meditation I went into, even though I've never had practice in that kind of thing. So if you can take deep breaths and picture something in your mind that has a rhythm (maybe a set of guitar strings being plucked and then vibrating.. pluck and vibrate..) you can get your mind off of it.

Your mind will hopefully wander to something else that's important to you, so let it. If you just focus on relaxing yourself like I said, I think you can make it go away.Health Question & Answer
