What departments in the hospital are considered critical care?!

Question: What departments in the hospital are considered critical care.?
I am wondering if it depends on what hospital you are at. I am in my last year of nursing school and I am trying to decide whether or not I am going to stay where I am. I am now working in the ER as a nurse extern. I like it, however I don't know if I want to work in the ER right out of school because it is so fast paced. I DO NOT want to work in med/surg. I was thinking IMCU/Telemetry. I would like to be on a critical care unit but what units are considered critical. I keep getting different answers.Health Question & Answer

Stay away from IMCU/tele...it is just as bad as the floor. There are many types of ICU's or CCU's. Neuro (in which I work currently), Burn ICU, Medical ICU ( good overall experience), Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU (fun, btw), Pediatric ICU, neonatal ICU and Cardiovascular ICU or CV recovery (recovering of fresh heart surgery). Good luck on your job hunt. Hope this helps.Health Question & Answer

in a lot of hospitals, they have the nurses rotate so they get a new section to work on each month. it keeps them from getting bored, i guess. but here, the really critical cases go to the Intensive Care Unit. i think all hospitals have an ICU-Health Question & Answer

IMO Critical care unit is the ICU. IDK if NICU is considered as such though but I'm still a student, still have a lot to learn :)
Good luck on your last year cuz I will have my last year next year. :)Health Question & Answer
