I was lifting yesterday and when i was doing shoulder press it felt like my shoulder popped out of socket and then wet right back in. It does not hurt unless i put my arm behind my head , then it feel like it will pop out again. When i roll my shoulder it pops a cracks does this mean anything.? Anyway it is wrestling season and id do not want it coming out in a match my friend says after it pops out i comes back out much easier. Do i need to go to the doctor even thought it has almost full range of motion and little pain or do i let it be.?Health Question & Answer

Something similar happened to me when I was in high school. It didn't affect any sports that I was in, but seven years later I had surgery on it. Even though you didn't dislocate the shoulder, the cartilage is torn and shredded. That popping you hear is where the cartilage should be and it's actually the bones rubbing against each other. You may not feel the pain now, but in a few years you might. Mine got to be so bad that I couldn't do 15 pushups with my shoulder hurting severely. During those years, the cartilage wear would get worse. Sometimes I could feel the shoulder bones slide around in there, but luckily never dislocate.

As for you can do. Icing won't do anything but numb it and make you feel better. Motrin will also do nothing. You could stregthen the shoulder muscles, that may keep the shoulder in place through the season. I never wrestled in high school but I imagine that your shoulder could be placed under a lot of stress. So talking to your doctor, maybe having an MRI, would at least give you the information to see how bad it is and then you can determine what to do later.

Eventually, I had surgery on mine. In and out in one day. No crazy scars or anything. The rehab starts immediately (day of the surgery) because they don't want the shoulder to seize up. I was in a sling for four weeks, taking it off several times a day to do the exercises. I had the surgery in April and the shoulder felt 100% around June/July. When I say 100%, I mean no pain at all. There was a few times before 100% when I dropped something off the counter and made a quick move to catch it with my bad arm and I would feel some pain there, but it was no big deal.

Hope this helps.Health Question & Answer
