Turn the lights down an hour before going to bed and turn off the t.v. and other electronics. A cooler temperature in your room helps as well. Maybe try meditating, and don't eat before sleeping. No alcohol either. If you can't sleep after being in bed, get up and do something because sometimes the stress of not being able to sleep keeps you up. Reading helps also. Working out during the day helps as well, but make sure you don't do any strenuous activity 3 hours prior to going to bed.

i am the same way... either it takes me forever to go to sleep, or i end up waking up in the middle of the night for no reason

go to your local pharmacy store (walgreens, rite-aid, walmart, cvs) and ask for Melatonin.... it's natural... your brain secretes natural chemicals called Melaton which helps make you rest and sleep at night. So, melatonin is just that natural chemical in a little vitamin form. It does help with going (and staying sleep)... if you don't want to take anything (because some people are picky about taking meds), then maybe you having something that is bothering you or that you can't get off your mind. try your best to address the problem and do what you can to resolve it so that you can clear your mind and get some sleep.

Do not consider taking medicines for sleeping. Then if you dont have it one day, you will not be able to sleep. Sleeping should be a natural phenomena. Your body should be stressed, tired (or) trained to sleep at that time.

Try to watch tv programs...that could put you to sleep. also a mild music in the room like Kitaro etc., can bring you sleep.

If you have worries in your mind, stress built up due to work/studies etc., leave it aside. Who doesn't have it these days.? Meditate for few minutes, then listen to some music. Just say to yourself: "Another day in my life & things will turn out good. Try to relax your mind." You will be normal in your routine and you'll get a good sleep naturally.
