I seem to have a strange clicking in my left ankle area...?!

Question: I seem to have a strange clicking in my left ankle area....?
Right, I've had this problem for a while now (short, sharp clicks whenever I move my left ankle - loud enough to be heard by anyone walking around with me) and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Generally it isn't actually painful, but sometimes that ankle begins to hurt slightly, a sort of burning pain.
I play football often, so is it a problem caused by / the result of that.?
Any help on what I could do to stop it (as I said, I've had it for a year or more) would be much appreciated.
Is it serious enough to see a doctor about.? Health Question & Answer

Hi BAP,

Don't worry about it. It is embarrassing but if it isn't painful your Doctor is unlikely to do anything except say it's O.K. But don't let that stop you going to have it checked for anything which may be serious, like early arthritis. I'm 67 and have had it since injuring my ankle some 50 years ago. I still played Football and Rugby and long distance running. I found that a Cod Liver Oil capsule a day stops it clicking all the while and have taken them for years and years. It still happens from time to time though.

Hope this puts your mind at rest. Good Luck.Health Question & Answer

I've had the same thing since i was in high school. i would go see the doctor just to check, but they told me that as long as it wasn't causing me any pain, they would just leave it alone. Health Question & Answer

It sounds like it could be the tendon clicking back into place. I get this on my shoulder but as long as it doesn't hurt then the doctor can't really do much.Health Question & Answer

i would say, best have it checked out. it's probably nothing but better to be safe than sorry.Health Question & Answer
