Q. about torn ligament(s) in knee?!

Question: Q. about torn ligament(s) in knee.?
If a ligament or two in the knee is torn and needs "keyhole" surgery to put things right, will the knee ever be the same again.? i.e. will you be able to play sports again without worrying the knee might "go" again.?

Is there much risk of complications in keyhole surgery.?

The reason I'm asking is I may need keyhole surgery but I don't know I get my scan in 2 weeks. I injured my knee 10 weeks ago and it is still painful so it prob will be a torn ligament.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
The question that the scan will answer for the orthopedist is how much of a tear and which ligaments are involved. If the tears are above fifty percent then a surgical intervention is most likely. This will allow you to return to all prior activities after undergoing physical therapy. If the tears are less than twenty-five percent then the doctor will send you to therapy and work on stabilization of the knee that way. The gray area is the twenty-five to fifty percent area. That is going to be up to your doctor and how he or she feels about going in to repair the damage. In all cases you are going to need physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that surround the knee and stabilize it. With ten weeks gone by the scan will also show how much healing has taken place and that will also be a factor for if the healing is taking place and it looks good then most likely there will not be a procedure done. Anytime one has surgery there is a chance for failure and or infection.Health Question & Answer
