First of all, my job forced me to work from 6am to 3pm?!

Question: First of all, my job forced me to work from 6am to 3pm.?
I work in an Assisted Living Facility. They said we had no choice or there was the door...but they gave us the incentive of another day off in the pay period. Now, they have cut our hours....One day out of the week I can only work 7am to 12pm.... I am a supposed to be a full time employee. Can they do that.? Is it legal.? and Is there anything I can do about this.?..Or some place that I can call.? Health Question & Answer

As far as I know, all healthcare facilities have some affiliation with a compliance hotline. You should first file your complaints there.

As far as your complaints, 6-3 is not that bad, that is what I work. By those hours I am guessing you are a CNA and working between 3-5 days a week. You are still coming close to your fulltime hours.
On the mandatory stay list, that is crap. That plus the cut in hours leads me to believe that you work for a very cheap facility that only cares about profit. They want money, they don't care if their employees are happy.

My suggestion would be to find a new job. CNA's are in as high demand as licensed nurses. I would go check out the hospitals if I were you...better hours, better benefits, better networking and they will sign a contract to pay for you to finish nursing school. All that far outweighs the possible minor pay cut, and you would be happier.Health Question & Answer

That is NOT full time!! Did you sign a contract saying you're a full-time employee.? If not, you don't have a leg to stand on.

I'm not a lawyer, so why don't you ask this question again under "Politics and Government." They have "Law" under there.

also, you can call your local library. Ask for the Reference Dept. They have all the resources to answer your question. In fact, it's their job to answer your question.
Best of luck to you. :)Health Question & Answer

I would take my extra time to look for a better job. Labor laws vary state to state. In TN its a right to hire or fire state which means they can fire you without a reason. So I just leave if I am being treated badly. With 8 years under your belt that shows your a loyal employee and someone better will hire you.Health Question & Answer

Reagan,

You need to check with the US Dept of Labor ot the State Dept of Labor. also check with your local Chamber of Commerce.. No one can make you work 17 hrs a day. I'm sure that is illegal. Its just not ethical. How can you provide quality care with no sleep. That makes no sense.Health Question & Answer

Employees are like revolving doors - One comes in the next comes out. Unfortunatley, If you will not submit to their rules, they will find someone who will.

Every state differs with labor laws - check out your state's website and who to contact.Health Question & Answer

no if you call the department of labor just say to keep it anonymous

Contact the Department of Labor in your state for accurate information.Health Question & Answer

I have to hand it to you. I go into Assisted Living facilities here, and they are some of the most depressing places I've known. Don't get me wrong, some of them are very nice. But there are others that are just downright nasty. I hope you work in a nice one.

It sounds like you are full-time, right.? You have four 9-hour days and one 4-hour day. In some states, the law says that you should be paid overtime pay for "any hours worked in excess of 40 per week OR eight (8) per day." If this is true where you live, then you should be getting one hour of overtime on each of your 9-hour days. They might be getting around this by giving you a 1-hour unpaid lunch period.

As for your options, the first answerer has a good suggestion. also, you don't say what kind of relationship you have with your immediate supervisor. If it's good, you could talk with him/her to find out what is happening. If not, then maybe you could go up a level or two to discuss this.

Eight years is a good amount of time to be with one organization these days. You deserve to be treated better than someone who is new or someone who doesn't show the loyalty and responsibility that you have.

Good luck with this! I wish you all the best!

P.S. Flyers fan or Pengins fan.? :-)Health Question & Answer
