Acl repair of both knees, can i go in the marines? ?!

Question: Acl repair of both knees, can i go in the marines.? .?
hey i've had both my acl and medial meniscus(sp) repaired on both knees and the most recent surgery for any of them was over 2 1/2 years ago almost 3 and i was wondering if they will let me join the marines with these prior injures... right knee has nothing in it but left knee has two screws that held the graft(acl replacement) into place until the bones healed together. i've played football after the left knee was fixed and then tore the right one. then on both knees i've wrestled 3 months after having surgery on the right one... i've been cleared for both knees from a dr for sports and they dont give me problems... i've been told yes/no so please give me your two centsHealth Question & Answer

Best bet is to contact a recruiter. Call our number 1800-Marines to find the nearest recruiter. Believe me a recruiter will do whatever it takes to get you sworn in! If you really want to become a Marine I would try! You will go to MEPS and they test you out for everything and they are the determining factor on whether or not you can be accepted! I would start there. There is a possibility that they won't let you in, you also have to consider the fact that as Marines we run like CRAZY. I am in my 4 years of Inactive, but as active we were running 3-5 miles a day 3-4 times a week. If you believe you can still run like that than do it! You wont regret it...well you might on your last mile of a 3 mile PFT though:) Health Question & Answer

You can have the screws taken out one year after surgery; so that will have to be done. I was told it is a simple procedure. Then, if an orthopeadic doc says that your knees are back to pre-surgery strength I would see no reason that you couldn't go into the Marines. They would check to make sure your laxity is back to normal and such, very easy tests that you've been through before. Just some pulling and pushing from the doctor on your joints.

They might not let you. Several people I know got rejected just because of flat feet. But if the Dr. cleared you, they might let you.Health Question & Answer
