Question: Am I out of touch with health care costs or is $654 for office visit for a broken toe excessive.?
I had a little accident and the husband insisted I go to the doc to see if it was broken. Yes, it was broken and I just got the bill (I only have major medical insurance).
Cost for the doctor's visit was $219.25
Cost for the x-ray was $29.00
Cost for radiology (was that to read the x-ray.?) was $405.58
I had full comprehensive insurance until last year, so almost everything was covered. I'm sure that there were costs that I never saw, so reading this stuff is kind of new.

radiologist's bill seems quite high, unless it includes a facility charge, but seems excessive. ask for itemized bill, bet the doc didn't do anything for you either except maybe pain meds and taped it or gave you special shoe or not. probably told you to elevated it and still walk on it...Health Question & Answer
You should of had like a $25 copay if im not mistaken and most if not all of the stuff they did depending on what it was should have been covered. Though the doctor you went to may not have covered your insurance, if they did then I would suggest that you call both the doctor and insurance and see why you got the bill.Health Question & Answer
Anytime you get X-rays the cost goes up tremendously. Those prices look about average. As a general rule though, they don't do anything for broken toes or fingers so it's kind of a waste of money to go in for that stuff. I mean if it's an extreme case, they might, but for the most part, they just say go light on it and let it heal.Health Question & Answer
Totally excessive, but as everyone else stated normal. Amazing amount of money for nothing useful. Next time you injure something you will know what you are doing and be able to fix it real fast with out going to the doctor.

This is a normal amount for what you had done. Radiology cost is for the usage of the very expensive machinery to take your picture (and of course the dr, and tech's pay) The 29 was probably for the actual film. Health Question & Answer
