im 12 & im scared of them too.
i already got both shots, the tetanus shot hurts more after you get the shot. dont stress! the meningitis shot dosnt hurt that much and its over in a second! just dont look, and take a deep breath in and then exhale while getting the shot. also make sure you mention to the doctor that your scared of the needles and ask if they have a stress ball. or you could bring your ipod to listen to. that calms me. but just dont stress. think of other stuff when you get it. and also, i always say "nice, flowers, RAINBOWS, coolness!" just random words, and then when it goes in im like "ow!" haha. then i just laugh it off. LMAO. just dont stress over it. :D hope i helped!Health Question & Answer

Great answers here.....but you need to relax during the shot. You need to relax your arm or you are guaranteed sure it will hurt and hurt all the next day as well. If you relax, it won't hurt near as badly.

Try focusing on the good parts of the shots. They are just a means of getting the antibodies into your tissues using a tiny little needle. The antibodies will protect your from illnesses that you do not want.

If you are fearful, you are not relaxing and a stiff muscle for an injection is a painful muscle after the shot. When you start stressing about the upcoming event, try to think of some things you can think of in the doctor's office that will help you to relax.

YOu will live through this event.....promise!!Health Question & Answer

The tetanus shot isn't painful like you might think. It's actually not that bad at all. Just don't look when you get the shot. Turn your head away, think of something else, and it will go by easier.

When people say the tetanus shot is painful, what they're actually talking about is more like muscle soreness. You probably won't feel anything unusual the day you get the shot. When I had mine done, my arm felt sore the next morning. It felt like I had strained a muscle, and it hurt to lift my arm above my head, but it was more annoying than painful. What you can do is, if you're right handed ask to have your shots on your left arm and that will help, since you don't use your non-dominant hand as much.

Lots of people are scared of needles. I was for years. It took me until my 20s to get over it. Health Question & Answer

It's not the needle that hurts, it the medicine, a tetanus shot can be quite sore for about a week, and make you not want to move your arm. it get's better, don't look, you'll feel the needle stick, but the discomfort is the small amount of medication injected into the muscle. as your mom if you can have some tylenol, or ask the doc or nurse... best thing to do, is relax your arm by your side, let it hand loose. if your muscles are tense, it can hurt more. i got the tetanus and the meningitis. i hate needles too and i always freak out before i have to get shots. i took 2 advil before i got both shots, so it doesnt hurt as much afterward. i know its hard, but you gotta relax ur arm or the pain will be worse. practice breathing steadily and you'll do fine. just think of it as helping you, if you get those shots, it makes ur immune system stronger. trust me, you WANT to get those shots, meningitis shot cud save ur life.Health Question & Answer

Personally, looking away doesn't help me much. It's the pain of the shot that I'm afraid of, not the actual needle so it might be a little different BUT...
I usually ask my doctor for a numbing gel, and it makes me less nervous, even if it doesn't work because you are telling yourself it won't hurt. I also ask if I can listen to my iPod during, and make sure I'm not really tense which makes it hurt more. If you don't want to use an iPod, thinking anything random will do the exact same thing. Just think of the ice-cream follow up you're getting, dinner that night, or keep your mind completely blank and see how long you can stare off into space. The important thing is: Don't sweat it. If nothing helps, get an easy pharmacy numbing cream or just try it out. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

First off ... you are not alone, so many people are absolutley terrified of needles and shots. I am nearly 18 and I still don't like them... but anyways... as to why you are scared... um, you are probably more afraid of the pain that the shot or the needle will cause rather than being afraid of the shot itself... and its relatively normal.. My tips would be... #1 RELAX! I know it is scary but the more you relax the less it will hurt, also try to keep yourself distracted, like many people have been saying take your MP3 player with you and listen to that... I also text alot so like when I need to get a blood draw or somthing done I text people... it ..keeps your mind off of it :o) and also ... don't look at the needle or anything... just look in front of you or at your phone or ipod or somthing... keep breathing (some people think that if they hold their breath ... idk...) but yea, keep breathing, count to 3... and maybe try taking some advil or tylenol like 15 minutes before so it helps with the achyness afterwards... also dont be afraid to tell the nurse or doctor that you are a little nervous .. they understand and they might have some advice for you then... Anyways, best of luck! Health Question & Answer

Yeah needles suck but the trick I have found is to close your eyes, before you even see the thing if you can help it. It works for me every time. If you don't watch there's less anxiety. The pain from the stick shouldn't be that bad but yeah you will be sore afterwards from the meds which you can't do much about. Take ibuprofin for swelling if you are able and to help with the pain.Health Question & Answer

Look away. Deep breath.

Don't get all freaked out before you go.
You'll only make it worse.

Your muscle will be a bit sore for a day, but it's tolerable.

Shots are a fact of life.

At least you know you'll never be a junkie, please.
It's a good fear to have.Health Question & Answer

Don't look at where your gonna have the injection, or look at it when it goes in, I have recently had a blood test, and I find it helps if you ask your friend/parent to come in and talk to them and hold their hand, its not much but it really works! Health Question & Answer

the needles they use today are so small at the tip you will not even feel it go in. what yo udo feel is the sting of the alchol they use to rub the area. you will be sore in the spot that they inject you for a few days to a week though.Health Question & Answer

i find it best to focus on something else. or at the very least, dont look at where you're going to be stuck. that way there's less anticipation, which is honestly worse than the needle itself.Health Question & Answer

relax don't panic, ur perfectly normal every one is afraid of needles.Health Question & Answer
