My feeling is that you should use a cadaver graft. The reason for this is every time that you use an area of your own body it becomes weaker. The other area that is used is the hamstrings and studies show that one of the reasons the ACL is torn is weakness in this muscle. Taking a graft from it only makes it weaker. Before the next procedure work with a physical therapist to strengthen the leg as much as possible. This will make the next procedure easier to recover from. The cadaver grafts have been sterilized multiple times and are safe. Health Question & Answer
First of all...bummer! Second...you'll be ok! Look at a cadaver graft! The healing time is much faster than using a patella or hamstring. I work in the ski industry and see lots of ACL tears! I highly recommend Dr. Jaynes at Vail-Summit Orthopedics. Call them to find someone in your area they would refer you to.Health Question & Answer
