Weird thing happened today - can anyone provide some insight?!

Question: Weird thing happened today - can anyone provide some insight.?
I was at work and in the middle of a session with a patient... a severe cramp formed under my right arm. It felt like it was the size of a small orange. Then with what I can only describe as a chain reaction of tiny deep charlie horses radiated from that point into what felt like the connective tissue of my breast bone.?.? It burned, locked me up for a few seconds, and totally knocked the breath out of me. It eventually eased up and even now hours later the entire area is very sore to the touch...under the arm any way.

I drink a ton of water throughout the day, so I can't attribute it to dehydration.

I don't usually ask questions like this on here. I'm not looking for medical advice in place of a doctor's examination, just curious as to what the informed make of this.

I'm 35, female, have been under a tremendous amount of stress lately, blood pressure is good...it was very weird and it really hurt.Health Question & Answer

The thing I would want to rule out is cardiac disease. It could be gastrointestinal or musculoskeletal, but you want to rule out any cardiac origin.Health Question & Answer

If you drink too much water, like 12 glasses a day it can actually be very bad for your heart, you should see a doctor and rule out any heart problems. It may have been a serious muscle cramp, or maybe even bad heartburn.Health Question & Answer

I've had this happen before, I was at school during a HESI test and it happened. I freaked and it went away after a little bit but was sore after, I talked to one of my clinical nurses and she said it was due to stress a major muscle spasm. I know stress can manifest in a lot of ways including something that feels exactly like a heart attack. It never happened to me again and I'm not suggesting that you should ignore it but I hope this will calm you down a little. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I would talk to my doctor and get an appointment with a cardiologist. I had back pain one night about 3 a.m. so bad I could not sleep. I kept trying different positions and nothing helped. I was waking up my husband from moving around so much in the bed so I got up and went to the couch. BIG mistake. By the time I got to the couch I knew I was having a heart attack. I could barely breathe, I couldn't call out for help and I couldn't reach the phone so I sat on the couch praying that I would not die because my 4 year old granddaughter was staying with us that week-end and I didn't want her to get up and find me dead. I felt like someone was choking the life out of me. Then about 20 minutes later I felt better. I could breathe, the choking had stopped, but it still hurt to move so I sat there for almost 2 hours then went back to bed. I went to the Dr on Monday (that was Sun. morning ) and sure enough I had had a heart attack. Go get checked out. My brother had his first heart attack at 39. He had 6 all together and a mild stroke before he had to have bypass surgery, 5 blockages, same as my dad had just a year earlier and dad was never sick in his life. He is 79 y/o now and doing great. Please go see a Dr. Health Question & Answer

I'm hoping you intend to bring this to the attention of your physician.?..I experience this and similar symptoms regularly, but I have a neuromuscular disorder that is the cause. In my case, the muscles of the diaphragm are involved, and my entire rib cage and intercostal muscles can sometimes spasm. In your case, something may have brought this on, and it may never happen again. It does sound more like muscle spasm than anything related to the chest organs, but there are no guarantees. When you have a severe spasm, it leaves the muscle feeling just like it would if you had injured it, as with a pulled muscle. Tell your doc, and if it happens again, take stock of what may be going on. There is a good chance that it is nothing to worry about. Health Question & Answer
