Whiplash type injury...Help?!

Question: Whiplash type injury...Help.?
Basically, in like August 2007 I slipped in the bathroom and fell on my back REALLY hard (i even cracked two tiles...)

It was really painful, but I didn't want to go to the hospital or anything. I just stayed in bed, took some medicine, and the pain pretty much went away for a while.

But, ever since then, my shoulders and neck have just been constantly hurting. The pain doesn't go away at all. I always have to "click" my neck. Plus, when I lean down it, my back hurts aswell.

I know I should've gone to see the hospital then, but I didn't.

I went to the GP a coupla days ago, and he referred me to the X Ray dept.

I got that done today, so I'll get the results soon.

But, does anyone know how they cure it or whatever.?

What will they do to help it hurt less.?

Is there anyway of making my shoulders and neck hurt less.? And will that "click" go away.?

Thanks for any help, info etc.Health Question & Answer

I had whiplash from a car accident and was referred for physiotherapy. I was told to regularly put a heat pack on the back of my neck (get one of those wheat bags that you heat in the microwave) then when your neck is warm, excersise the neck by stretching forward with the chin out and towards your chest. Next slowly move the head sideways - ear to shoulder both ways. use the heat bag again and if really painful, alternate with a cold pack (bag of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel) 10 minutes each.Health Question & Answer

You could have broken whats called the odontoid process, which sticks up from your vertebrae, this is called "whiplash". If it is broken, you may have to wear a neck collar for awhile to keep your neck straight until it heals. In the meantime try not to move your neck, that "click" could be bone fragments rubbing together.Health Question & Answer

Have you considered making an appointment with a chiropractor.?

I had a whiplash type injury and it turns out my back and neck were out of line (which also made my shoulders hurt)

I got adjusted and 4 hours later I felt great.

Good luck and I hope you feel betterHealth Question & Answer

I had a whiplash accident several years ago. I did months of physical therapy and years of chiropractic adjustments (sublaxations) without getting much relief. I recently went to a chiropractor that also does applied kinesiology along with the standard sublaxations and I am 100% better. Neck and shoulder pain and headaches are gone. Applied kinesiology is considered controversial, but I recommend trying it out.

Eating healthy, regular exercise, staying hydrated with water, and practicing good posture are very important on the road to recovery. You may want to take vitamins that help bones and muscles (like vitamin D and a B-complex).

Oh, and sleeping with a rolled up towel under your neck may help, too, in the meantime.Health Question & Answer
