What's the difference between a sprained ankle and a twisted ankle?!

Question: What's the difference between a sprained ankle and a twisted ankle.?
Or are they the same thing.?

It's just a question that's been nagging me today. The reason for that is I think I sprained my ankle when I fell down the stairs today at school (very embarrassing).

Which brings me to another question: have you ever had a sprained ankle and gotten through all right without crutches.? I really, really don't want to have to use crutches. I know it's stupid, but...Health Question & Answer

Answers:
sprain = painful with swelling
twist = some pain at first, but goes away quickly.

I never really sprained my ankle too severely (so much that I cant walk at all). Go to walmart, but some Coach Sports Tape, and then check youtube.com for "ankle taping". You will end up walking a bit weird (cant really bend the ankle), but all the ligaments will be given a chance to rest, and recover. If everything is getting better in a few days, slowly return to normal exercise. Crutches work a bit better, because they take all the weight off the ankle for an even faster recovery, but if you did not sprain it too severely you can get by without them.Health Question & Answer

twists are quick and should be over in a day

yet sprains are an actual falling injury

sprains have lots of swelling also

i have sprained my ankle once so i was on crutches because the docters said it almost broke

but i twist my ankle on a day to day basis

Health Question & Answer

Sprained Ankle: Sprained

Twisted Ankle: Twisted

Does that explain it.?
