Kay, when i was in grade four, i got severely sick and was rushed to the emergency room, where they had to quickly put me in surgery. Later, after i regained consciouness, my doctor told me that the reason why i was rushed into surgery like really quick, was cause my appendix had exploded, and the toxins were starting to spread through my body. and while they took my appendix out, they cleaned out the toxins. now, im in grade 11, and i had told a few new friends i made whom had recent appendix surgeries, and i told them my story, and they all told me i was lying, cuz if that actually happened i would be dead. so now, i am like so confused. i don't who to believe-my doctor/parents or my new so called friends.? once again, please no rude answers.Health Question & Answer

Believe your doctor and parents. Appendix do burst, and no - it doesn't necessarily mean you die if it happens. They do the appendectomy, and do exactly what the doctor explained they do. I've assisted in surgery plenty of times when this had happened. You simply irrigate the abdominal cavity and make sure you have things nice and clean. The person gets given IV antibiotics afterwards to make sure they don't develop an infection. The great majority of them do just fine. Your friends don't know what they are talking about, they are just repeating an old tale they have heard and believed. Don't be too hard on them, it's not a new tale at all and you'd be surprised how many adults believe it too. In the future, I recommend you believe the folks you know have the knowledge and experience to know best. Your parents have no reason to lie to you, and your doctor spent a lot of time training to know his business. Your friends have no more knowledge or experience than you do, so they are experts are very little. They certainly don't know diddly about the appendix.Health Question & Answer
You, your family and doctors are most like to know what they are talking about than your unqualified friends (.?) you had peritonitis, which can be fatal, but if medical attention is sought in time, a full recover is likely. Don't worry about what they say, they obviously just like to hear themselves speak and make themselves feel superior.Health Question & Answer
