How do I heal my small but deep cut?!

Question: How do I heal my small but deep cut.?
I have a small but deep cut on the sole of my foot from stepping on some glass on a beach, It's small but quite deep, and needs no stitches. There is a flap of skin still covering the cut (it's quite thick :s) and I really want it to heal fast. Can anyone please please please help me.? (: Thank-you xxHealth Question & Answer

Clip the flap of skin off with a pair of nail-clippers; but be careful not to clip any living (pink) skin, or this will hurt and bleed. Flush the area with clean water and pat it dry with a sterile cloth. Use Neosporin or another jelly-based antiseptic on and inside the wound. (Neosporin tubes have kind of a long nose on them, which you should be able to get part-way into the cut). Cover the are with a gauze pad and some medical tape (a band-aid won't stay on your foot) and wear a sock. Keep the area clean and dry, and change the dressing at least once a day.

I know from many previous foot injuries that walking on a wounded foot can cause the wound to open up and bleed, so you'll have to be very careful (walk on your toes) until the thing heals. Take aspirin or tylenol to help with pain and fight a potential infection. Take your temperature about twice a day: a fever indicates the wound is infected.

If infection occurs and you can't afford a doctor, open the wound with a sterile knife and allow it to drain; continue to apply antiseptic ointment, (or honey). Apply alternating hot and cold compresses to manage pain and swelling. Overload your system with as much vitamin C as possible to fight the infection.Health Question & Answer

It is not easy to self-clean a deep cut, even though it does not require stitches. However, if you are confident it is nothing serious, get a bottle of wound disinfectant and some gauze from your local pharmacy and you can clean the wound and the area around it.

Not being able to see the flap of skin, can't tell if the flap will help protect the wound or end up hurting you more. But if the flap of skin is causing you pain, consider cutting it off with a sharp sterile blade that can be bought from the pharmacy too. Be careful when using the blade. It is very sharp.

Any sign of infection and it is best you go see a doctor. Health Question & Answer

Baby It!

By that I mean clean it several times a day, keep it covered, dry, and get medical care at the first sign of an infection. This type of wound can heal from the top down trapping bacteria inside.

If you have not had a tetanus shot in the last five years you should get a booster to be safe.Health Question & Answer
