Can you help me change my lifestyle?!

Question: Can you help me change my lifestyle.?
I am now retired, live alone, but like that!

My problem is that I have become really lazy!

I sit on the sofa all day watching tv or on my laptop!

I don't bother with my appearance, but always did before, never going out until I looked smart and well groomed.
I always took pride in my home, buying things to look nice, decorating and gardening.
Now I can't find the energy or the interest to do anything!
I have been taking anti depressants for many years, but I can't say that I feel depressed, just not interested in anything except my "Comfort Zone! on the sofa with my 2 cats!
I need some advice to help me to get going again, the way I used to!

Thank you for your help in advanceHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
I totally understand your situation. Ive gotten a bit that way myself but its through disability and I rarely like to leave my comfort zone. Ive been trying to change that though with the help of some professionals. To start with you need to get some structure in your life and find something to interest you and get you out doing things again. joining a gym is a good idea as it helps with your energy levels. I too have problems with energy and depression but you have to remember there is a wonderful world out there and you just need to try new stuff. make a timetable of your week and put in your daily living tasks and the things you need to do to stay healthy and add something each week to try that is new. I tried some art courses which i really enjoyed and it gave me a chance to meet new people. so you could try an new hobby. also put aside some time to focus on things like your appearance and your home, doesn't have to be much to start with but hopefully once you start you'll realise why you liked it originally. go out and buy some new clothes and make a fuss of yourself. Just remember you're not alone in this and plenty of people struggle with this. you've taken the first step in acknowledging that things need to change. good luck.

p.s anyone who suggests you stop taking your depression pills is not a proffesional and that should only be done by your doctor. I stopped and was told to start taking them again as I got worse! also going to the doctor wouldnt go amiss as there are plenty of ilnesses that cause severe tiredness, he also maybe to advise you on your current problem. dont listen to any negative comments theyre just idiots.Health Question & Answer

To be honest I think your allowed to be a little bit lazy once you have retired, but you shouldn't let yourself go. Join a gym or take up a hobby. You need an aim in life, thats why you cant find the energy to do things, because you just dont see the point. If you have an aim then you will find yourself feeling so much better. What did you used to like doing.? Maybe you could take that up again. also get yourself down the pub with your mates or something. Get a bit of a social life going.Health Question & Answer

STOP taking the anti-depressants! you said it yourself, you aren't depressed, so whats the point.?

But you should go out a few times a week.

First go to a gym or spa. Secondly maybe to dinner or a movie. Third go do a physical activity like skating or maybe even volunteer for a local nursing home or hospital.

Health Question & Answer

may i suggest to you that you contact your doctor and tell him/her what is going on in your life right now. this is not normal and you are not lazy. it sounds to me like you are depressed ,even if you don't think so. depression is insidious. it sneaks in and takes hold without you realizing it. you may need a change in meds or maybe just a change in dosage. but you really do need to go to your doctor asap. if you don't have a therapist i would like to suggest that you find one to go to. he/she might be able to give you the additional help that you need.Health Question & Answer

Now thatyou have retired, try to think of things you have always wanted to do in life. List all the things that you have always wanted or wanted to do and find the viable and sensible. But do note that you should not limit yourself to a lack of ability or will.

Alternatively find friends who wants to visit regularly or go visit the local community centre or volunteering centre to find things to volunteer in. The people who you make contact with should help you get back into momentum.

Hope this helpsHealth Question & Answer

My solution for you is to get back out there! You'll never know unless you try! You need to go to the spa! Get some highlights! Do something fun! Go to the movies with your friends! Go shopping! Ask someone out on a date! Those are always fun! Just because your retired, doesn't mean you can't go out, have fun, and act like a teenager again!

You need to find a hobby or some friends or family to get together with. If you don't have any reason to get all fancy and dressed up why would you.? If all your gonna do is sit on the couch then you might as well just be comfortable. Plus, if you enjoy what your doing then do it!Health Question & Answer

Go see your doctor and ask him to help you ge off the drugs first & foremost. Then, I would suggest that you find some volunteer work to do (maybe a local animal shelter or soup kitchen.?). That way you will be helping others & it will make you feel good about yourself. Good luck & happy thanksgiving.Health Question & Answer
