was rock climbing yesterday and took a pretty bad fall now my right ankle is sprained pretty bad the doctor said i could be on crutches any where from 2 to 6 weeks. 6 weeks no climbing is a nightmare i climb like 3 hours a day every day and have a competition coming up on the 12th.
so with crutches and a bad sprained ankle i cant climb i cant bike i cant run. what can i do to keep in shape and keep my mussels toned for the next 2 to 6 weeks.?

Rest that ankle! Ice it on and off. I hope you are wearing a tensor bandage around it to keep it compressed. Keep it elevated as well.

After a few days, it should be getting a bit better. If you REALLY want to keep your body active... do a few careful stretches (mostly with your arms), use bean bag weights around your other ankle (leave your injured one alone), and then do lifts while sitting down. You can also do weight lifts with both your arms, but do not try to do anything with your leg that has the injured ankle.

The only thing you can safely do is walk on the ankle once it's ready. Make sure you step on the heel and do not favour the foot by only using your tip-toes to walk. It won't heal properly.

If you try to hurry it, you'll just injure the ankle even more. So be careful.Health Question & Answer

Well, you enjoy sports, and you must make sure that you heal properly, or you won't be playing any sports at all.

I'm sure you didn't really need to hear that from me!

What I would do, if I were you, is find some type of computer game (sports) that you can get into, while your healing.

Do what the doctor tells you, perhaps he/she will have you go to physical therapy.

Sorry about your injury - but it will heal and it could be a lot worse,

Spend your idle time, focusing on something positive and have some fun too!!

You need to rest your ankle as much as possible however, laying about all day everyday for a long period unnecessarily isn't going to do you any good or keep you happy. You'll def be OK to do some stretching, and some upper body work in the gym (perhaps even use a rowing machine if you have your ankle strapped up well) you could also get away with some gentle swimming :) Health Question & Answer
