If you are arthritic, I don't understand why your doctor hasn't prescribed an anti-inflammatory to you.

You need to get an appointment with your GP, and tell them that the tablets are not working for you, as there are a lot of prescribable alternatives. However OTC there isn't a lot of choice and what you have been given is already the maximum strength you could get OTC.

Go into a pharmacy and have a chat about your short-term options with the pharmacist whilst you wait til Monday to get an appointment. They may advise you on something like ibuprofen which is an anti-inflammatory and may have more of an effect for you.

also, if you are not taking them daily but you can anticipate some things which will aggravate it like going to the shops, then take the painkillers before you leave the house, so that you reduce the long-term pain when you get back. You can obviously still take another dose later in the evening if you need it as well.

Medications such as diclofenac and ibuprofen are commonly prescribed for arthritis, whereas codeine and aspirin I would suggest are not the obvious choice. Speak to your GP and ask for them to rethink your meds.Health Question & Answer

you can get asprin and codeine(300/8) and ibuprofen and codeine(200/8) if you work out the timings right you can take some painkillers every two hours without going over the limit for each drug. be careful though ibuprofen can adversly affect your stomach and kidney function after prolonged use and asprin can affect your stomach and clotting.

you really need to see a doctor for a stronger prescription alternative.Health Question & Answer
