Ive been on Vicodin for last 2 days--is it normal not to do a #2 as much when on these pills?!

Question: Ive been on Vicodin for last 2 days--is it normal not to do a #2 as much when on these pills.?
Ive noticed I havent really been having bowel movements lately since Ive been on Vicodin, which is bothering me because I don't want that to build up in me because for one it's gross and two I don't want to start feeling sick to my stomach as I'm already in enough pain as it is (waiting until Monday to have a root canal done).

What can I do to "go".?.?.?

Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes, one of the side effects of Vicodin is constipation.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water (even more than you would usually drink) and try an over-the-counter fiber supplement.

I don't recommend laxatives, as this problem has just started and laxatives can be very harsh on the G.I. system and your liver.

Remember, Vicodin is also harsh on your liver and can also be very addictive. Take care of that root canal and then switch over to over-the-counter pain killers until you are healed.

Good luck and good health!Health Question & Answer

Pain killers do cause constipation...that is a known side effect.
Try using a product like Metamucil to get things going. No it shouldn't cause diarrhea or anything like that....but will keep you regular till you get off the pain killers.Health Question & Answer

YES, that's a real problem.

Take some fiber every day, like metamucil and buy some laxitive. You might want to get yourself in the right frame of mind for an enema if it comes to that. Health Question & Answer

yes this is very normal. opiates slow down your bowls so you need to move around, drink plenty of water and fiber and if needed take Colace. Health Question & Answer
