Medical doctor put stitches in me 24 hrs ago, the gauze is stuck on it, what should I do?!

Question: Medical doctor put stitches in me 24 hrs ago, the gauze is stuck on it, what should I do.?
I never had stitches before. I got 6 stitches 24 hrs ago and now I can't get the gauze off because it is stuck tight to the stitches, and I'm afraid to pull it off or it might open the stitches. I want to gently clean it and put some antibiotic on it. When should the gauze come off.? Is it ok to soak it off with warm water.? Need your advise on how to care for these stitches so it will not get infected, and heal quickly! The stitches are on my side. Thanks! Health Question & Answer

soak it in water, will come right off.Health Question & Answer

Soak it with water, distilled if you have it, or even peroxide (which is 96% water anyway. When it loosens, pull it off slowly. The reason to cover it at this point is to protect the stitches as the skin should be sealed closed by now. It looks bad but it doesn't need antibiotic ointment. It just needs to be kept clean.Health Question & Answer

Brief exposure to clean warm, soapy water.

Or to clean warm water with an ounce of 10% Betadine solution per pint.

Or use hydrogen peroxide.

Then pat it dry with a sterile gauze pad (or clean and dry white towel), apply antibiotic ointment, and cover it gently. Use enough of the goop so you don't have to rip it off the next time.Health Question & Answer

i think it is safe to say you can soak it off with warm water. Just be very gentle. Peeling it off slowly should not rip your stiches out.. only harsh motions could lead to that .. just be gentle and swift about it Health Question & Answer

That has happened to me before but they were in my back which is close enough. I used hot water and took it off slowly that is what i recommend for you.Health Question & Answer
