I have an Ear Ache and I can't Hear out of my left ear. What can I do to help it?!

Question: I have an Ear Ache and I can't Hear out of my left ear. What can I do to help it.?
I have had a Head Cold for about 3 weeks now. I've had a runny nose, More Mucus then I should. I'm Congested, and I get throbbing head aches. Just a couple of days ago I started losing my hearing in my left ear, I even get Aches that send shocks to my jaw. I've tried Ibuprofen to help the pain. Just that doesn't exactly help. I've even tried Peroxide to try to get my hearing back. Nothing has worked, so... Is there anything you know of I can use that maybe in my house hold that actually works.?

Thanks to all who help. (=

Olive oil won't help the pain... You need to go see a physician. If it's getting that painful, you could have an ear infection. I highly doubt you still have a cold after this long. It's probably progressed into a sinus infection at this point and will need antibiotics to fight it off. These should take care of any ear infection that you may have, also.

Peroxide won't do anything but dry out your ear canal. The congestion you have is behind your ear drum, and the peroxide is not going there. Peroxide is used for cerumen management, and that's not your problem.

So time to go see your GP and get some help with that sinus issue. Kick it before it causes any other problems.Health Question & Answer

actually if i were you i would go to the Dr. I went through something similar with the head cold, headaches...blah blah. Then he hearing went in my left ear. It was not an "ear infection" per say. I have been having to have steroid injections into my inner ear to fight off some inflammation and possible virus that has more then likely permanently damaged my hearing. Please do not take this lightly...You head cold might just have been a side effect of something else that was going on...that is what happened to me.Health Question & Answer

Sounds like u may have fluid trapped .....do u hear crackling.? It is all connected and the culprit is most likely your ear. Try to flush your ear with luke warm water there may be wax preventing the fluid from draining. When i had it last i had to take oral antibiotics and antibiotic ear drops. Ear infections are the worst. Good luck and hope u feel better.Health Question & Answer

The flu.? Eat oranges & soup.Health Question & Answer

Sounds like ear infection which is so painful. Absolutely do not put anymore peroxide into that ear. The fluid that is trapped in the ear has become contaminated. Thus, the swelling. Can lay your head on a hot wash rag or heating pad. Sounds like you need antibiotics which will start to clear the infection with about the second dose. Don't wait too long as it more than likely will get worse. Can also take some tylenol along with the ibuprofen. Can take up to 800mg ibu every 6 hrs but be careful of stomach issues and take with food. Can take 1000mg of tylenol along with the ibu.Health Question & Answer

Kayla, I really have felt your pain. I have suffered with my ears since I was a little girl. One year I had developed symptoms such as the ones you are experiencing. I then did the same thing you did; I put peroxide in my ear. Long story short I ended up with a bacterial ear infection. Being that our ears, nose and throat are all connected; I ended up with my ear swollen larger than my face. I don't want to say don't use olive oil or a few small drops of green tea. I just don't want your ear to cause you more pain than necessary. I wish you luck. I would go to the dr. Again, good luck!Health Question & Answer
