What should I do about the bulging disc in my neck?!

Question: What should I do about the bulging disc in my neck.?
Im 16 and a Junior in high school. About a year ago I ran cross country and started having problems with my right shoulder. A few months later I started soccer and I turned my heads back and it popped. I couldn't move my neck in any direction except to lay flat on my right shoulder. It was VERY painful to move it in any other direction. I also had to use a sling for my right arm because I couldn't support it after popping my neck. A few months later my neck popped again and I had the same problems. I couldn't even sit myself up in bed and it lasted for about a week until I had reasonable movement. After the second popping in my neck I had the same problem in my left shoulder like my right. I went to the doctor a month ago and he scheduled me for an MRI. During the time period from April to the doctor appt. in November it hurt to put my chin to my chest and when I did that I felt it in my lower back. About 2 months before the appointment I had a numb feeling from my shoulder to my elbow. A few weeks later it went into my other arm. I went to the doctor and like I said I got scheduled for an MRI. While I waited to get an MRI I got numb feelings from my elbow to my finger. I got my MRI and the results showed I had a bulging disc. He had me take therapy for my shoulders 3 days a week. I was told my neck would heal over the year. This was not good news because of soccer coming up. I kept going to soccer practices and had trouble putting my arms on my head to breathe. I lost circulation fast and had trouble breathing. Im still having these problems and my friend told me her doctor said that with bulging discs whatever your doing you need to stop because I was irritating it. I stopped socce for the past week and only have therapy 2 days a week. I took tylenol during practices and it wouldn't help and I have to take tylenol at least 7 times a week for my back. Now im not sure what to do and my coach is telling me to play thru the pain, but it is VERY painful. Any ideas.?Health Question & Answer

Gotta agree with your friends doc. Whatever makes it worse, stop it. Your disk is inflamed and protruding.

Until you can follow up with your doc, need to give your neck a little rest as it is trying to tell you that is what it needs. Did PT tell you to apply ice or heat.?.?

Do follow up by calling the doctors office Monday and be proactive in getting your questions answered. Need to get his/her attention. Might need to be referred to neurogologist.

Good luck......can just rest for awhile and take good care of your spine now......it has to last you another 90 yrs.Health Question & Answer

First, you need to verify that there is a nerve root irritation. I studied under this one doctor in the Chicago area, Dr. Cox. He said that he has an associate of his who is a neurosurgeon. He said there were three main reasons for failed disk surgery. #1 is, you operate on the wrong level. #2 is, you operate on the wrong level. Want to guess what the #3 reason is.? There are different things that can cause radiating arm pain. Just because you have a disk herniation, that does not necessary mean that is what the problem is. I have disc degeneration in my neck, but no radiating pain, or when I do, it is more of an active trigger point referral pattern. One test to verify nerve root is an NCVT, nerve conduction velocity test. Another one is an EMG, a very
