I have knee pain and its hard to walk up steps.?!

Question: I have knee pain and its hard to walk up steps..?
About a month ago or so I was roller skating and took a pretty nasty wipe out. I fell right on both my knees extremely hard. I laid there for a while and after a couple minutes I was able to get up and go sit down. I was all bruised and swelled up for a while but now after I thought everything was ok I am no having issues walking up steps. My knee seems to get swelled up and just hurt..I am not sure if its something I need to worry about or not. Thanks for the help!!Health Question & Answer

Considering how long you have been in pain, you should really get in to see your doc. He/She can let you know what's going on in there. Pain while walking up steps is typical of ITBS, a patellar tendon bruise, a tear in the meniscus, or a fracture. You may need some physical therapy to get it back in shape. Sounds like cartilage damage, often occurs from trauma such as a fall onto the knee. It is a common sports injury, swelling can occur as blood accumulates in the knee. Try using ice packs. Usually heat pads can stimulate the bodys own natural painkillers but can also stimulate blood flow which if there is blood around the knee proberbly isnt best to get the swelling down. Go get it checked I would say.Health Question & Answer

it could possibly be some sort of bursitis, and the fluid behind your patella could've seeped out after the accident, inflaming your knee and making physical activity difficult. go to the doctor, tell em what happened and they can probably fix you right up. in the meantime, i would alternate hot and cold compresses and wrap it up to reduce swelling!Health Question & Answer
