Anyone have experience with Trazedone as an anti-depressant?!

Question: Anyone have experience with Trazedone as an anti-depressant.?
I have the sort of doctor who lets me research drugs then tell him what I think will work best for me. He also lets me know when I'm way off, but that's not part of the question.
I have anxiety and depression and I can't sleep. I thought I'd kill at least 2 of those birds with one stone and suggest Trazedone. I know it is often prescribed in low doses for sleep, but I was wondering if anyone had any experiences - good or bad - using it as an anti-depressant.
Note: I can't take SSRIs because they cause me too much anxiety, Wellbutrin also causes me anxiety.
Thanks in advance.

**Just asking on here because I don't really trust those "side effects" websites. Usually personal experience is the best way to find out about something.Health Question & Answer

An experienced psychiatrist knows more and probably cares less. So weigh others opinions carefully and remember meds affect everyone differently. I only took Trazadone one day because it made me vomit terribly. As far as being used as an antidepressant, I thought it was a mood stabilizer.? Anyhow everyone I've talked to has advised against sleeping medications. Do you really want to be on drugs the rest of your life.? Your goal (and your Dr.s goal hopefully) should be to get you stabilized , and work on developing better life habits and thought processes. I'm not saying this is going to happen overnight, but it is very possible to change yourself over time and reduce or eliminate dependence on meds. Keeping to a schedule and developing good habits over time is your best bet. You do need support though. Being on a schedule seems boring and difficult to maintain (I certainly haven't mastered it by any means) just try changing one thing at a time. Like a bed or wake up time, exercise (even a little). You have to train your body, habits are formed after approximately a month so don't quit!Health Question & Answer

Traz is moderately helpful for insomnia, moderately worthless for anything else.

I had to take so much Traz to sleep that I felt drugged in the morning.

you may have better luck.

I like lithium for depression, taking blood tests is critical however. It can be dangerous.

By the way, let your doctor pick the meds. He has the practical experience.Health Question & Answer

It isn't the antidepressants that cause your anxiety. Anxiety usually coexists with depression. Trazadone is good of course it is taken at night before bed. Some antidepressants work for some but not for others. If the Trazadone doesn't help you after 3 or 4 weeks. Try another antidepressant but tell your doctor that if it doesn' help with anxiety that you need also an anti-anxiety med. That is how I have always done it. You can take SSRIs you just need an anti-anxiety medication along with it.Health Question & Answer
