How do you get out of a depressive slump? Not wanting to be social etc.?!

Question: How do you get out of a depressive slump.? Not wanting to be social etc..?
Going through a break up and stress with school. All want to do is sleep and stay in bed or watch movie/read book at home. Do NOT want to leave the house and dread having to go out and be social and interact with people right now. It seems so futile. Can't even work out no energy/motivation. My life seems so blase and boring but I am such a homebody...any suggestions on how to snap out of it and reintegrate to be being social.?.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
you may have social anxiety disorder which can cause depression. winter time depression is called SAD and lots of ppl experience this caused by being indoors more out of the weather and a vitamin d deficiency as a result. Depression and anxiety run in my family along with slight agoraphobia (not wanting to leave the house and panicking when you do) I don't have agoraphobia, but do avoid social interaction and my two young kids give me the excuse to not get out a lot. if you want to email me to talk about that would be great. ladida_r@yahoo.com

This sounds like a case of medical depression.Talk with your Mom or Dad or close relative or friend about how your feeling.Don't wait you need to see a Psychiatrist .They have Meds. to help you & the meds. are only temporarily .Health Question & Answer

Try letting out your feelings to a really, really good friend, someone you trust, and try to go out even if you don't want to. If that doesn't work then I would try something that relaxes you. Like yoga to let out that stress.
I hope this helps and good luck!!Health Question & Answer

Depending on how long ago the break up was, you may just need time. You'll sap out of it eventually. Find something productive that you love doing. Draw, write, whatever. Do something that gets your feelings out, that nobody has to see or hear if you don't want them too.Health Question & Answer

Probably it's going to take some time. Statistically, if your depression has only been lasting a short while, you are likely to snap out of it sometime in the near-ish future. Sometimes your circumstances will change, or perhaps you need time to heal, or maybe getting some distance from events will give you a new perspective. To jump start getting out of depression, it's good to stick to some sort of routine, and best if you exercise some, even if only going for short walks. Try to keep your diet healthy and eat your veggies. Talking to close friends or a professional may help you release any grief or emotional blocks.

If your depression lasts longer than three months, you may want to consider professional counseling, or medication, or both.

Exercise is often the best cure for depression. Once this episode has passed, you'll find yourself enjoying normal activities again with no effort.Health Question & Answer
