Answers:
Mental illness of a family member can really take a toll on a supportive person:as mental illness sucks the life out of everyone .How old are you.?
get them involved with the professionals and if you have to ,and it sounds cruel ,but get away from them as far as you can for your own sanity because mentally ill people are really selfish and it is not their fault but in their eyes it is all about them and they give no consideration to others, but they cant help it..be sure that they are on the correct medication. that helps for a while.Health Question & Answer

That's when you can show more love and symphaty. You can either
be looking after them, or you can put them in any mental phychopatic hospital and be taken cared there. Sometimes, there's no other choice you can make because if you look after them for quite a time, you too might have mental illness too. But others would bear the burden because they love and care for their loves ones. They will do whatever they can do to show love and care to their loves ones. But you have to be careful about yourself too, mentally and physically to help them. Least you damage yourself too.Health Question & Answer

Well, I personally suffer from mental illness where there appears to be no hope for cure, and I still have a good life (but I do suffer a lot). I have severe bipolar & my symptoms are chronic.

Best you can do is be supportive, help make sure they see the psychiatrist regularly and take their medication, connect them with social services that may be available, and be ready to spend some time with them when they are in full relapse. Just the kinds of things you would do if they came down with a debilitating physical illness of some kind, or got dementia.Health Question & Answer
