Mental illness isnt just made up, trust me. It means something isnt right with ur brain. For example if u have depression its because the levels of serotonin are messed up in ur brain. U can cause urself things like panic attacks by thinkin stuff like that, but u cant bring on a disease.Health Question & Answer

LOL! That's a funny approach. Most people do have a wide emotional range. One day happy, perhaps another day..not so much. We also have periods of emotions....sad after a breakup or death, elated after getting that sought after job, but that's normal. When you read a symptom list regarding a particular disease it's easy to relate to yourself. Hey, I get sad sometimes, happy other times...but that doesn't make me manic depressive. Sooooo, the other thing to keep in mind is that while these disorders originate in your mind, they are sometimes the result of chemical imbalance, not willpower. Schizophrenia in particular isn't easily controlled without medication (that I'm aware of anyway). If you have hallucinations, or lack of control over your emotions, that's something to seek help for. Good question :)Health Question & Answer

Yes, I think, through hysteria and being a hypochondriac.
People's bodies have actually developed several symptoms of diseases they believed were highly contagious and such. They actually had rashes, vomiting, sweating profusely, pain, and other symptoms of a disease they didn't even have. So, I imagine that it could be possible, for certain ones at least.

If you keep researching a mental illness and its symptoms, your mind can trick you into thinking you have it.Health Question & Answer

Neurotic disorders you may be able to talk yourself into having. For instance phobias, depression, etc

But any psychological disorder that would have a defective neurological componant you wouldn't be able to talk yourself into. You can't create a chemical imbalance or mental defect just by thinking really hard about it.Health Question & Answer

"a mental disorder is all in the mind right.?"

This statement is incorrect. "All in the mind" implies that it's something that's made up or only exists because you believe it to exist. Many mental disorders are due to chemical imbalances or trauma in the brain, so although the problems are "in the mind", it's not "all in the mind" so to speak.

At least that's what my alter ego tells me....

If you want to talk about self-fulfilling prophecies or altered perceptions of reality, the mind is a wonderful tool. If you believe something to be true long enough, it will become true as a part of your reality. This is common with hypochondriacs or with people that self-diagnose. Look up any disease in a medical journal and you're likely to have had similar if not the exact range of symptoms at one time or another.

With regards to perception of reality, if you get a brand new Toyota Prius, you'll start noticing TONS of Prius's driving on the roads that you've never seen before. Does that mean they were never there.? Nope, you just weren't looking for them. The same thing applies when you're in love. Many people will start to look like the person you're infatuated with. The same thing happens when we research disorders and symptoms. We discover similarities and find someway to relate it to ourselves thus making it a part of our reality.Health Question & Answer

Yes your exactly right. Everyone is capable of becoming unstable. All you need to do is think about something overs and overs, eventually it becomes a reality to you. Psychosomatics. It is not real, until your mind makes it real, to you. If you thought about killing and thought about it and thought about and thought to yourself that there is nothing wrong with it, eventually, your mind makes you think that you are right, that there is nothing wrong with it. Then, a killer is born.

We are all capable of horrible nightmares, but yet we are still the creators of beautiful dreams. Our mind is a very, very powerful tool that makes us think in ways we never thought of. Just like when your home alone, you know no one is there with you, but you think about it in your head, overs and overs, thinking that someone is watching you. Before you know, you have convinced yourself that someone is indeed watching you.

Be careful, the mind is a terrible thing to waste, yet a scary thing to lose control of.Health Question & Answer

No. There are neurological reasons for mental illness, so you can't make yourself have it. You may, however, have recurrent thoughts as a result of some mental illnesses.Health Question & Answer

The mind is a powerfull- but vulnerable thing. whatever you put in thats what you'll get out eventually. People can go crazy just by simply studying too hard. So yes i do believe that this is possible.Health Question & Answer

i think you can multiple disorder personality just by think. i am not really sure.Health Question & Answer

Well, I think you can create your own reality just by thought. how do you even know if YOU are real and not just some thought someone thought up. and i am serious.Health Question & Answer
