Do you personally know of any preteens who make themselves throw up because they think they are fat?!

Question: Do you personally know of any preteens who make themselves throw up because they think they are fat.?
My 12 year old who is tall and thin (not fat AT ALL), 5'5" and 120 pounds, just confessed that she thinks she is fat and has been purposely making herself throw up. We knew she was throwing up often but she needed her gall bladder out so we just figured that was why she was getting sick.
She has some mental issues - OCD and possibly Bipolar, I plan to talk to her Psychiatrist about this - I was just wondering what your experience with this was like - did the child get help and stop.? Do you have any links to share that describe the dangers of such behavior.? Thanks!!Health Question & Answer

hi. i'm a 14 yr old girl, and my best friend has been doing that for a while. we (me and her bf) finally convinced her to talk to her mom and get help. she just recently got out of a center to help her and is going to regular meetings, and teaching herself to stop. throwing up becomes an addiction and it's very important for her to stop before it gets too serious. good luck!Health Question & Answer

She probably has bulimia she is very skinny for her height and has a lower BMI, that is very unhealthy for such a young girl going thru development and all, you need to get her help immediately before it gets worse, there is help out there and she will get better soon.Health Question & Answer

That is nasty. Tell her she is beautiful the way she is, and that is how God intended for her to be.Health Question & Answer

My boyfriend used to do that, when he was 13-15. I got him to stop.Health Question & Answer

Unfortunetly, I do. I am 14, and i know about 1 or 2 friends that do that, I try to help them but they keep pushing me away. It's sad but it's pretty common in high school. Just the pressures of being thin and beautiful is so high today because of tv shows we see of supermodels, magazines calling celeb's fat when we would consider them to be underweight (that makes us think that if THEY are fat...what would they call us on magazines...elaphants.?) and it makes us do stupid things. But some teens needs to realize that not everybody has to be a size 2 or 0. in fact, the average pants size for teens to adults is size 12. But I personally have been there, and it isn't a pretty sight. I just couldn't help but see myself as 50 pounds heavier than i actually am in the mirror, i eventually stopped myself from going too far when my friends helped me come to the realization to the dangerous of what i was doing. I understand how your daughter feels, probably more than i should. This is what I do, and this is what you should tell her to do:
Tell her to look at herself in the mirror everyday and give herself a compliment, even the slightest thing like "My hair looks good today." it may seem silly but over time you will see a difference in her body image and self esteem.
Hope this helped ;)
