How can I lift my spirits during a difficult job search?!

Question: How can I lift my spirits during a difficult job search.?
How do you deal with the emotional toll taken by an extended job search.?

The hiring process takes so agonizingly LONG. The applicant with seniority has to decide whether to turn down the job, the paperwork has to get passed through the personnel office, and there might even be someone else in the running that I don't know about.

I'm starting to get really depressed. The weather is nasty here, and I don't get out much. I'm feeling worthless because I don't have a job. My husband tries to be supportive, but I can tell he's getting impatient too. I can't focus on anything because I'm waiting for the phone to ring...

If you were ever feeling this way during a job search, how did you cope.?Health Question & Answer

I am a Consultant for an Employment Agency in Western Australia. Our general focus is on the Mining Industry and with the current Global Financial Situation on top of the incredibly large drop in Nickel Prices, approximately 19 mines have either laid off staff or shut the site down all together leaving NUMEROUS people without work.
I have seen the torments of waiting for a job first hand and it breaks my heart, but those who stick it out and battle the storm are the ones that make it all worth it in the end. They're the ones that make us realise what a difference we are making here and we consider them to be the role models to the ideal candidates we are looking for.
With the slum in the Resource Industry at the moment, plenty of people are looking elsewhere for positions before seeking government support. Why not look for something just to get you by.? Surely there is a little supermarket or clothing store down the road that are looking for staff.? Understand, this is not a permanent fixture and doesn't even have to go on your resume. It is not a waste of skills to work in a different industry to your area of expertise and if anything, it looks better to the prospective employer to see that you have taken the initiative to seek temporary employment until the right position comes along.
I don't know what field you work in, but i can only say this to give a word of comfort... every "sticky situation" is a mountain when you're looking from the bottom but stick it out, hike up there and when you're at the top looking down, it will be nothing more than an ant hill.
I wish you all the best with your application and don't be affraid to stay in touch with the company to follow the progress of the application. There is a thin line between getting an UPDATE and getting on their NERVES so just see what response you get on the first phone call and take it from there.
Good luck, i'm sure things will be looking up soon (and you'll be looking down at that ant hill!!)Health Question & Answer

I'm in your same boat. To make things worse, I have a shoulder injury that is really limiting my future job opportunities. I go through pity parties occasionally, but now I'm looking at doing some volunteer work. I think it will help improve my self worth and who knows, I may run into a job opportunity as I meet other people. What about trying something like that.? Maybe you'll even learn a new marketable skill.Health Question & Answer

I am going through the same thing currently. I should have known about my job at the end of December, but they have kept putting it off. Find a project to keep yourself busy, something you enjoy doing. I am currently making a wooden kitchen table for us. Redecorate (cheaply), or redesign part of your house, plan out your next vacation, or spend some time volunteering.Health Question & Answer
